The MP 8200 is an industrial computer platform from Kongsberg Maritime, designed to serve as the host for the APOS (Acoustic Positioning Operating Station) software—the core human-machine interface and data processing unit for underwater acoustic positioning systems. It is used in conjunction with HiPAP and HPR acoustic positioning systems and can also be integrated with K-Pos dynamic positioning (DP) systems. It serves as a standard operator station hardware for offshore engineering vessels and support vessels for ROV/AUV operations. The unit is equipped with an Intel dual-core processor and features internal Flash storage for the APOS acoustic positioning software. It ingests raw acoustic echo, attitude, heading, and position data from underwater acoustic transducer arrays, Motion Reference Units (MRUs), GPS, and compasses, performing complex calculations such as data resolution, coordinate transformation, and beam-based positioning. Through an Ethernet network, it synchronizes positioning data across multiple operator stations, outputs the positions of underwater transponders, ROVs, and subsea structures, and transmits operational commands to the acoustic processing unit, thereby enabling closed-loop monitoring of underwater targets. Running the APOS software, the system provides graphical positioning displays, numerical coordinate data, attitude information (roll, pitch, and heading), and trajectory plotting. It supports various positioning modes—including SSBL, LBL, and sparse LBL—and allows operators to configure parameters, track targets, and manage the start/stop of operational tasks.
