The PCD232A (3BHE022293R0101) excitation controller is part of the AC800PEC platform’s PEC80-CIO (Combined I/O) module and is used with the UNITROL 6000 excitation system (predominantly the high-power “X-power” models). Housed in the same rack as the previously mentioned PCD231 (PEC80-CCI pulse interface board) and GFD233A (PEC80-LIN communication I/O board), it serves as a high-density local I/O acquisition board for the static excitation cabinets of combined-cycle gas turbine generators. It acquires critical analog signals within the excitation cabinet—such as excitation voltage, excitation current, power module heatsink temperature, cooling fan air temperature, and field discharge circuit voltage—while also capturing secondary signals from generator-side PTs and CTs. These signals are fed to the CPU for AVR, PSS, and various excitation limit calculations. The module features signal isolation, filtering, and wire-break diagnostics, and assigns quality flags to the output data points. Leveraging the PEC80 backplane’s high-speed bus, it transmits acquired AI/DI data in real-time to the PEC80 main controller and outputs AO/DO signals based on commands received from the main controller. It supports deterministic cyclic refreshing to meet the real-time requirements of excitation control.
