The GFD233A (3BH022294R0101) excitation controller serves as a local I/O expansion and external system communication gateway for the PEC80 controller. Installed within the excitation control cabinet, it acts as the signal interface between the PEC80 master controller and external measurement points, the DCS, and the gas turbine control system (Mark VIe). It manages backplane I/O bus timing and facilitates high-speed data exchange with the PEC80 master controller; it uploads acquired I/O data to the CPU and outputs DO/AO commands received from the CPU to external devices. The unit performs real-time self-diagnostics on the board power supply, backplane bus, I/O channels, and communication links, reporting fault information to the UNITROL HMI, DCS, and Mark VIe. Channel faults are flagged individually and do not directly trigger a trip of the entire excitation system.
