CON021 is an eddy current preamplifier model from Emerson’s EPRO series, specifically designed for shaft vibration and displacement monitoring of industrial rotating machinery (such as steam turbines, fans, pumps, and compressors). It is often used in conjunction with eddy current probes such as PR6423 and PR6424 to form a complete TSI (Turbine Monitoring System) sensor module. This model is still in production and is still distributed through distributors. It possesses core advantages such as high precision, non-contact operation, and wide frequency response (0–20,000 Hz), and is widely used in heavy industries such as power, petrochemicals, and metallurgy.

System Working Principle Summary:
The CON021 preamplifier receives high-frequency oscillation signals from the PR6423 probe. Through an internal bridge circuit and temperature compensation coil, it converts the eddy current changes into an analog output of DC voltage superimposed with an AC vibration signal, for subsequent acquisition system analysis. Its core is the eddy current effect: the probe coil generates an alternating magnetic field → eddy currents are induced on the surface of the metal object being measured → the eddy current counter-magnetic field affects the original coil impedance → impedance change is converted into a voltage signal.
Installation and Wiring Key Points:
Probe Installation: Must be perpendicular to the surface of the measured axis, at a distance of 0.5–2.0 mm (depending on the measurement range), fixed using a dedicated bracket to avoid mechanical vibration interference.
Cable Connection: The probe and preamplifier use a plug-in connection. Shielded twisted-pair cable is recommended, with a length not exceeding 100 meters.
Power Requirements: A negative voltage power supply (-24V DC) is required. Positive voltage input is strictly prohibited, as it will damage the circuit.
Grounding: The preamplifier casing must be reliably grounded to suppress electromagnetic interference.
