The EMERSON PR6423/008-110+CON041 is an electrodynamic absolute vibration sensor from Emerson’s EPRO series, designed specifically for monitoring the condition of industrial rotating machinery. It is a standard model in the PR6423 series and is widely used in high-reliability industrial fields such as power, petrochemical, and metallurgy.
Its working principle is electrodynamic: This sensor is based on the principle of electromagnetic induction, consisting of a mass block (vibration block) and a measuring coil supported by spring plates. When the equipment vibrates, the mass block remains relatively stationary due to inertia, while the coil moves relative to the magnetic field of a permanent magnet, cutting magnetic lines of force and generating an induced voltage signal proportional to the vibration velocity. This signal can be output without external power supply and possesses inherent electromagnetic interference resistance.
The main technical features are as follows:
Frequency range: 10Hz to 1000Hz; maximum measurable amplitude: approximately 2000 micrometers (peak-to-peak).
Sensitivity: approximately 30mV/(mm·s) (50Hz, 20℃); overall error: approximately ±3%; linearity error: less than 2%.
Natural frequency: approximately 4.5Hz to 12Hz (depending on model and installation orientation).
Operating temperature range: -20℃ to +150℃ (sensor body); connector temperature: -40℃. Up to +70℃
Protection rating: IP65, relative humidity 0 to 100% (non-condensing)
Shell material: cast aluminum; connection: stainless steel armored tube with cast aluminum connector
Measuring coil DC impedance: approximately 1875Ω, inductance not exceeding 68mH; permissible continuous acceleration 10g, short-term 20g (perpendicular to the measurement direction)
Damping coefficient: approximately 0.6 (20℃), approximately 0.43 (100℃); weight: approximately 930g (including cable and connector); connecting cable: 3×0.62mm² PTFE sheath.
Structural characteristics: Features a robust metal shell and built-in magnetic circuit shielding design, providing strong resistance to mechanical shock and external electromagnetic interference.
Typical Application Scenarios
Absolute vibration monitoring of shaft systems in large rotating machinery such as steam turbines, gas turbines, and compressors.
Fault early warning and health status assessment of equipment such as gearboxes, water pumps, and fans.
Vibration safety monitoring in explosion-proof areas (EEx ib IIB/C level) such as chemical plants and oil refineries.
Seamless integration with Emerson MMS series monitoring systems for automated alarm and shutdown protection.
Installation and Matching
Typically uses threaded mounting (M10×1 or similar specifications) for direct fixation to the equipment housing surface.
Requires a preamplifier (such as CON021 or CON031 series) for signal amplification, filtering, and impedance matching, before connecting to the MMS 3000, MMS 6000 monitoring system, Emerson DeltaV distributed control system, and various PLCs. The cable is shielded, typically 3–5 meters long, and armored versions are supported for enhanced tensile and abrasion resistance.
Product Positioning and Advantages
As an industrial-grade sensor, thePR6423/008-110+CON041 is renowned for its high stability, power-free output, and strong environmental adaptability. It is the preferred solution for traditional piezoelectric sensors in low-frequency, high-amplitude vibration monitoring scenarios. Its design conforms to the API 670 standard and is widely used in preventative maintenance systems for critical equipment.
This sensor features a robust structure, strong anti-interference capabilities (high output, low impedance design), and stable operation in complex industrial environments. It is ATEX explosion-proof certified and suitable for installation in hazardous areas. It can be directly connected to EPRO’s MMS 3000 and MMS 6000 rotating machinery monitoring and protection systems and is also compatible with Emerson DeltaV distributed control systems and various PLCs. It is widely used for vibration monitoring and fault early warning of the casings of various turbine machinery and industrial equipment, such as steam turbines, gas turbines, water turbines, compressors, pumps, fans, gearboxes, and coal mills. Installation is simple; just fix the probe to the housing of the device under test and connect it to the monitoring system via a connecting cable.
