Product Positioning and Manufacturer
Manufacturer: ABB Group, a global leader in process analytical instruments, with over 50 years of experience in gas chromatography technology. The PGC5007 belongs to the PGC5000 series and is specifically designed for the analysis of total sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, and carbonyl sulfide. It is the only online total sulfur analyzer in the series certified to the ASTM D7041-04 standard.
Series Affiliation: Works in conjunction with the PGC5000A main controller, PGC5000B/C intelligent oven, and DRS2170 sampler, supporting a distributed control architecture and suitable for petrochemical, natural gas, power generation, and environmental protection industries.
Process Gas Chromatographs PGC5007 Total sulfur analyzer
The PGC5007 performs a Total sulfur analysis for a range of streams, liquid and vapor, from natural gas to gasoline and diesel.
A fixed volume of sample from the process stream is injected via a sample inject valve. Air transports the sample into the furnace, where it oxidizes the sample to carbon dioxide, water and sulfur dioxide. These components are separated using packed columns and pass into the Flame Photometric Detector (FPD), where the trace levels of Total Sulfur are measured.

A designation was assigned to the ABB On-line sulfur in fuel gas chromatograph (PGC2007) – ASTM Method D7041-04. The PGC2007 has now been updated to the PGC5000 Series PGC5007B Total Sulfur Analyzer.
This method provides industry the only on-line method with precision and bias data that is 2-5 times better than all other sulfur methods on the books. This is the only method to date that meets the requirements for low range (0-15 ppm) diesel compliance measurements.

Core Technical Characteristics
Analytical Principle and Detector
Oxidation-Chromatography: After the sample is injected through an injection valve, it is carried by air into a high-temperature furnace (approximately 1000℃), where it is oxidized to generate CO₂, H₂O, and SO₂. After separation by a packed column, SO₂ is detected by a flame photometric detector (FPD) to achieve quantitative analysis of total sulfur.
Detector Configuration: Supports multiple detector types including sTCD (thermal conductivity), mTCD, FID (flame ionization), and FPD (flame photometric), with a detection range covering ppb to percentage levels (e.g., FID: 1ppm-100%).
Hardware and Structure
Modular Design: All components are front-accessible for easy maintenance; constructed of 316L stainless steel for strong corrosion resistance..jpg)
Protection Rating: IP54 (NEMA 3 equivalent), operating temperature -20~50℃, 95% non-condensing humidity, compliant with ATEX, IEC, and other safety standards, suitable for Class I Division 1/2 hazardous areas.
Scalability: A single PGC5000A controller can connect to multiple PGC5007 controllers, supporting multi-path (up to 31 channels) and multi-component (up to 999 components) analysis, adapting to complex process requirements.
Communication and Integration
Interface Protocols: Supports Modbus TCP/RTU, OPC, 4-20mA output, integrated redundant Ethernet, intrinsically safe fiber optic communication, and is compatible with DCS/PLC systems.
Software Functions: A 10-inch SVGA touchscreen supports a graphical HMI, enabling method development through “click + drag and drop” operations. It stores 7 days of chromatograms and reports, and supports remote diagnostics and network self-recovery.
Application Scenarios and Advantages
Core Applications: Total sulfur analysis of liquids/vapors such as natural gas, gasoline, and diesel, meeting the compliance measurement requirements for diesel fuel in the low range (0-15 ppm), suitable for emission monitoring in refineries, natural gas processing plants, and power plants.
Industry Cases:
Petrochemical Industry: Naphtha cracking gas, catalyst performance evaluation, product quality control.
Environmental Monitoring: Source tracing of air/wastewater pollutants; online monitoring of industrial waste gases (e.g., SO₂, NOx).
Energy Sector: Sulfur content analysis of liquefied natural gas (LNG) and biofuels (e.g., biomethane).
Technical Advantages:
High Precision: ASTM D7041-04 certified, with accuracy and bias data superior to other online methods, meeting low-concentration measurement requirements.
Stability: Redundant design, electronic pressure control (EPC), and automatic cleaning function ensure long-term operational reliability.
Flexibility: Supports single/multi-flow path configurations, adaptable to analysis scenarios from simple to complex, such as simultaneous analysis of total sulfur, hydrogen sulfide, and carbonyl sulfur.
Summary: The PGC5007 total sulfur analyzer, with its high precision, high reliability, flexible configuration, and strong industrial compatibility, has become the preferred solution in the field of industrial process gas analysis, especially suitable for scenarios with strict regulatory requirements on total sulfur content, and is a key device for ensuring process compliance and efficiency improvement.
