The application of the ASM-EX2100 module in the GE EX2100e excitation control regulator system in turbine-driven blower equipment is essentially a comprehensive control solution that seamlessly integrates excitation control, turbine control, static starter control, integrated control system, and human-machine interface.
This module uses Insulated Gate Bipolar Transistors (IGBTs) as its core power devices. The 35A series can provide up to 35A rated output, while the 120A series can reach 120A. Through a pulse width modulation (PWM) power converter, it precisely regulates the excitation current of the turbine generator, thereby controlling the turbine speed and power output of the blower. During turbine blower operation, the EX2100e system collects key parameters in real time, including generator voltage, active current, reactive current, frequency, and slip. The transmitter system calculates the generator power, flux magnitude, phase angle, and power factor. The control software then drives the actuator to adjust the excitation intensity, ensuring the turbine stably drives the blower impeller to high-speed rotation under different operating conditions.
At the system architecture level, the EX2100e achieves seamless integration between excitation control, turbine control, static starter control, integrated control system (ICS), and human-machine interface (HMI). For independent retrofit scenarios, this module supports interface with the user’s distributed control system (DCS) via serial communication or Modbus Ethernet protocol, enabling remote monitoring and collaborative scheduling.
This system supports Ethernet LAN communication and can interconnect with turbine control systems, integrated control systems (ICS), human-machine interfaces (HMIs), Historian databases, site monitoring systems (OSMs), and customer distributed control systems (DCSs). For standalone retrofit applications, it also supports integration with external DCSs via serial or Modbus Ethernet. This means that in turbine blower scenarios, operators can remotely monitor the blower’s operating status via HMI, and immediately detect and remotely handle any faults.-1.jpg)
Physically, the module uses a freestanding indoor metal cabinet with NEMA 1 (IP20 or IP21 protection rating) for floor mounting, with optional IP54 protection. The standard cabinet dimensions are 800 mm wide, 2290 mm high, and 830 mm deep, while the compact cabinet is 610 mm wide, 2286 mm high, and 508 mm deep. The operating ambient temperature range is 0 to 40 degrees Celsius, and the current derating temperature is 50 degrees Celsius. Regarding AC input range, the 35-amp series supports 90 to 280 volts RMS, while the 120-amp series supports up to 480 volts RMS, with a maximum input frequency of 480 Hz.
This module can communicate comprehensively with turbine control systems, ICS, HMIs, Historian data acquisition systems, and field monitoring systems via Ethernet LAN. It is equipped with complete self-diagnostic and protection mechanisms to ensure safe operation and optimal energy efficiency of the turbine equipment throughout its entire lifecycle. Compared to traditional excitation solutions, the EX2100e module, with its high integration, wide input range, and powerful communication capabilities, has become a benchmark solution for excitation control in modern turbine power generation.
