The IS420UCECH1B-A quad-core controller is another version of the UCSC controller. It features a quad-core processor running on a 1.2 GHz AMD G-Series processor. Designed by General Electric for the Mark VIe series, it is the primary controller mentioned in the GEH-6855 Volume 2 manual and is described as a real-time hypervisor controller with support for the QNX Neutrino multitasking operating system. The QNX operating system is designed for high-reliability, high-speed industrial applications. Another technology used on this controller is Embedded Field Agent (EMA), which helps run Predix cloud applications and potentially web applications over a stable connection. All of these work together to transmit real-time data to the connected controller.
Unlike other controllers in the Mark VIe series, which utilize a backplane for all input and output, the IS420UCSCH1B controller does not utilize a backplane and does not host any I/O applications. The software and hardware architecture of this controller ensures that no application input points are lost if the controller must be shut down for repair or maintenance. The IS420UCECH1B-A controller features a variety of Ethernet ports, three of which are used for different redundancy applications. In TMR redundancy applications, all three ports are used, while in dual-redundancy applications, only the S/SL2 and R/SL1 ports are used. In all redundant applications, the ports use RJ45 connectors and 10Base-TX/100Vase-TX twisted-pair cabling.
Core Features
Seven RJ45 expansion ports:
RJ45 is a common Ethernet interface that supports 10/100/1000 Mbps (GE stands for Gigabit Ethernet).
Seven ports are used to connect multiple devices (such as sensors, actuators, switches, or other controllers) to achieve distributed control or data acquisition..jpg)
Controller GE:
Indicates support for Gigabit Ethernet communication, suitable for high-speed data transmission scenarios.
Controller functions include logic control, data processing, and protocol conversion (such as Modbus TCP, Profinet, and EtherCAT).
Typical Application Scenarios
Industrial Automation:
Connects PLCs, HMIs, inverters, and other devices to build industrial Ethernet networks.
Supports real-time control (such as motion control and process automation).
Network Management:
As an edge device, it aggregates data from multiple terminals and uploads it to upper-layer systems.
Supports network features such as VLANs and QoS to optimize data transmission.
Energy/Transportation:
Used for substation control in smart grids and centralized management of traffic signal systems..jpg)
Summary
This device is an industrial controller supporting seven Gigabit Ethernet ports, suitable for scenarios requiring multi-device connectivity and high-speed communication. To ensure the correct model selection, it is recommended to obtain detailed technical documentation from the manufacturer and verify compatibility with existing systems.
IS420UCECH1B-A Review
The IS420UCECH1B-A controller is the second UCSC controller in the Mark VIe series. It is designed for use with ControlST 07.01 or later and can be used with embedded EtherCAT, embedded PPNG, and EFA configurations. All relevant information can be found in the GEH-6855 Volume I and Volume II manuals. The IS420UCSCH1B is a successor to the UCSC controller and includes features not available in the previous generation IS420UCECH1B-A.
